Dear Geraldine,
I’ve been struggling with making precise cuts when quilting, especially when I have to move my fabric around constantly to get the right angle. It throws off my alignment and makes the process slower. Do you have any tips for keeping everything steady and cutting more efficiently?

Dear 'Frustrated Cutter',
I completely understand how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to achieve those perfect, precise cuts but keep losing your alignment from constantly repositioning your fabric. It’s one of those challenges many quilters face!
One thing that really helped me was switching to a rotating cutting mat. It lets you rotate the mat instead of moving your fabric, which means you can make all your cuts without disturbing your carefully placed pieces. The locking feature on some mats is especially helpful, as it keeps the mat steady once you’ve positioned it—so no accidental shifts!
Not only does this improve your cutting accuracy, but it also speeds up the process since you’re not constantly adjusting your fabric. It’s such a simple solution, but it can make a world of difference in your quilting projects.
Happy crafting and here’s to more precise cuts!
XOXO,
Geraldine

if it is strips your having trouble with, I use a little weight to put on the ruler at the top as i have my hand at the bottom. and make sure you have a sharp blade, and just do it. you can get scrap fabric at the good will to practice on, or even old tshirts that u can use as rags. when it’s a really important fabric and a cut.. I always say a little prayer ! lol but seriously, you have to get past that fear… and the only way to do that is cut it! if u make a mistake , adjust the pattern or find another fabric in your stash to replace it! this is suppose to be fun and enjoyable!

Hi, I have the same problem cutting accurate and in general as I don’t have any spare or just fabric to practice on and have many projects that need to be cut correctly the first time and am frustrated about doing any project for this reason and there are not many people to help me as I live in a small town and would have to travel to get help plus pay for it. Any ideas?
